Echoing legacy storage firm Tintri’s pioneering Alexa speechbot work, private cloud vendor and VMware alternative VergeIO now enables AI agents to operate directly within VergeOS environments. Agents can build networks, deploy workloads and diagnose infrastructure faults via plain-language prompts.
The company announced two key updates: Verge CLI, a full command-line interface for VergeOS, and a built-in MCP server based on the open Model Context Protocol with dedicated agent skills. Combined, they allow agentic AI platforms including Anthropic Claude Code and OpenAI Codex to natively manage and monitor VergeOS infrastructure.
Larry Ludlow, Verge CLI Chief Architect, explained: “The MCP server lets AI agents reason from official VergeOS documentation, delivering accurate, platform-aligned diagnoses instead of speculative model guesses. A unified API covering compute, storage and networking enables full-stack fault tracing, a capability disjointed third-party tooling cannot match.”
Verge CLI aligns with the complete VergeOS API, unifying commands for compute, storage, networking and data protection as the core operational toolkit for AI agents. Built-in VergeIO agent skills empower AI models to propose and execute tasks within pre-defined admin permission boundaries.
This transforms traditional VMware-style per-core licensed infrastructure, enabling fully plain-language driven operations.

Public AI models like Claude Code and Codex, alongside self-hosted local models, can directly operate the platform while retaining full admin oversight and access control.”
The open MCP interface supports all MCP-compliant AI agents and models. Users with strict privacy and security demands can run local open-weight models including Llama, Qwen and DeepSeek via Ollama, keeping all operations and infrastructure data on-premises.
Industry Context: Tintri’s Forgotten AI Management Pioneer Work
Nine years ago, VMware-focused storage vendor Tintri pioneered AI-powered storage management via an Alexa speechbot integration, enabling Amazon Echo voice commands to control array operations. A public YouTube demo showed Tintri’s technical marketing director using Alexa to query system status and provision three VMs, with voice, vCenter and email confirmations of completed tasks.
At the time, the experimental voice-driven infrastructure tool was widely dismissed. Today, natural-language AI management interfaces exemplified by VergeIO have become mainstream, with voice control features expected to follow soon. Tintri later faced bankruptcy and was acquired by DDN, leaving its trailblazing Alexa speechbot capability archived and unused, an early precursor of modern agentic infrastructure operations.
