Developers can now simulate embedded system database flash hardware usage without physical SSD deployment.
Founded in 2001, McObject has focused exclusively on embedded DBMS technology. Its flagship eXtremeDB/rt is a real-time database built for resource-constrained embedded microcontrollers with limited CPU, memory, storage and network capabilities, delivering time-series support and fast, deterministic responses. The ACID-compliant in-memory database supports optional persistent/hybrid storage, tailored natively for embedded and real-time scenarios.
Deployed in over 70 million global embedded systems, it serves aerospace, defense, telecom, industrial automation and financial markets, covering intelligent devices, IoT/edge hardware and real-time industrial applications.
McObject Co-founder and CTO Andrei Gorine stated that advancing embedded device sophistication amplifies memory constraints and tightens development timelines. The latest eXtremeDB/rt release delivers a leaner, faster database engine to conserve RAM, alongside simulation tools that enable early storage architecture optimization, eliminating reliance on physical hardware prototypes.
The updated eXtremeDB/rt features key enhancements:
Minimized Runtime Footprint: Optimized for resource-limited environments to cut hardware BOM costs. McObject validates that a 1GB flash-based database operates with merely 40KB of memory for metadata, cache and stack usage. Reduced memory overhead boosts system scalability and sustains strict determinism for deeply embedded deployments.
Hardware-Free Flash Simulation: The upgraded flash simulator supports transaction file mapping, enabling developers to evaluate database access parameters across diverse storage layouts including raw flash, managed NAND, eMMC and SD cards. Teams can analyze and optimize flash access behavior and cache settings in early development stages, prior to target hardware availability.
Expanded Hardware Support: Broadened core runtime compatibility covers new platforms and industry standards: enhanced native support for STMicroelectronics boards; full ONFI specification compliance to simplify NAND flash integration via standardized low-level interfaces; and SPI-mode SD card support, enabling low-cost flash storage for microcontrollers lacking dedicated SDIO interfaces.
Upgraded Embedded Connectivity: The integrated EWSlite lightweight web server now natively supports LwIP (Lightweight TCP/IP). This empowers resource-constrained devices to maintain secure, stable HTTP connectivity and remote access without excessive processing overhead.
